Baroness X: Demeter (September Monthly Mythical Mystery)

Friday, September 30, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey guys! Since today is the last day of September (and my mother's birthday - Happy Birthday Mom!) I figured it was about time to do the reveal for the September Monthly Mythical Mystery from Baroness X! This month's polish is Demeter and the extras are bath tea and a shower tab that are poppy scented!

Demeter is described as a fiery red-orange linear holo with golden flakies. I'd call this a blood orange or a poppy red and the gold flakies really give it an extra pop! I did find this to be a bit sheer with one coat, but it builds nicely and two coats would be sufficient. Shown below is three coats with a glossy top coat.

Anddddd as an extra special treat... I actually have sunlight shots! I almost never get a chance to actually swatch when the sun is out, but I did today and so you get some sun pictures!

This isn't a color I would normally pick for myself since oranges and orange toned polishes can be super finicky on me, but I really like this! It's definitely a unique addition to my collection! What do you think of this polish? Let me know in the comments!

Also, the October MMM is on sale now for $15! The hint this month is that it's vampy and includes blood orange scents! It's on sale until Oct 2nd or until it sells out (there are 125 available this month), so grab it while you can!

Different Dimension: Montego Red

Wednesday, September 28, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey guys! Today I have Different Dimension Montego Red for you! I know, I know. I blog a ton of Different Dimension polishes. That's because almost everything I blog is stuff I buy myself and out of all my polish I own the most Different Dimensions. So that's why you see a lot of it on here. Anyway! This polish is from the August Holo Hookup box, which is a monthly box that contains four holo polishes for $40. Different Dimension is a regular feature in it.

This polish is a linear holographic reddish pink with blue glitters sprinkled in. This polish totally reminds me of strawberries. The blue glitters look just like strawberry seeds. It has a creamy and smooth application and is very opaque. This could be a thick one coater. I did a thin coat followed by a medium thick coat. Shown below is two coats with a glossy top coat.

Doesn't it remind you of strawberries?! Totally reminds me of strawberries. This is probably one of my favorite pinks because it's a gorgeous shade and the blue glitter really makes it unique to my collection. What do you think of this polish? Let me know in the comments!

Femme Fatale: Grape Minds Think Alike (Oops May '16)

Monday, September 26, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey y'all! Today I've got Femme Fatale Grape Minds Think Alike! This was an Oops polish release in May 2016. This is an blackish purple base (it looks sort of indigo to me) with a copper shimmer and a variety of glitters... gold hex and holographic circle glitters. Since this is a jelly polish it's not going to be a one coater. I found best coverage to be three coats. Shown below is three coats and a glossy top coat to smooth it out.

I really like this polish, but I'm a fan of all things purple and copper so I might be a bit biased. This is actually still in stock at Beautometry and Shiro Cosmetics, but when it's sold out it's gone, so grab it while you can! What do you think of this polish? Let me know in the comments!

Shooting Star Sunday: Hercules

Sunday, September 25, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey guys! So I know I sort of disappeared this week... I don't particularly want to get into it all, but the long story short is that there was an unexpected death very close to me and I spent most of the week dealing with that stuff. It was not a good week. But I digress. We're back on schedule this week and today we have another in our Shooting Star Sunday series! Today we have Different Dimension Hercules!

Hercules is a linear holographic base packed with silver and gold flakies and has a golden flash! This polish has a silky smooth formula and is pretty opaque, but not enough to be a one coater. You could definitely do two coats and have sufficent coverage, but I did three thinner coats and a glossy top coat.

I love this polish! It's the perfect golden shade for autumn! It's very reminiscent of Alpha, which I featured on our last Shooting Star Sunday, but it's a gold version. This polish was originally released on February 28th, 2015 and was unfortunately a limited edition, but you might be able to find someone who will part with theirs. What do you think of this polish? Let me know in the comments!

Vapid Lacquer: Fall 2016 Collection

Monday, September 19, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey y'all! Today I've got the Fall 2016 Collection from Vapid Lacquer! As soon as I opened this package I was oohing and ahhing over how much it reminded me of autumn! It's a perfect blend of fall colors and is totally reminiscent of the perfect autumn day for me. It makes me think of the leaves changing, Halloween, and my favorite pair of skinny jeans with boots (IT'S ALMOST COOL ENOUGH FOR THEM!!!). This collection consists of seven polishes of varying finishes. They're all very opaque and could easily be a thick one coater.

First up is Fire Starter! This is a fiery red shimmer polish with an orange flash. It reminds me of the  red the maple leaves become this time of year. It's bold. It's vampy. It's silky smooth and opaque. I love it! This is two coats with a glossy top coat.

Next up is Ablaze! This is a bold orange holographic polish with flashes of red sparkle. It reminds me of pumpkins and fall leaves and is honestly more of a burnt orange than a true orange. Which is awesome for people like me who are orange/yellow challenged skin tone wise. This orange actually plays really well with my skin tone and you have no idea how thrilled that makes me. The formula on this was creamy and opaque. Shown below is two coats with glossy top coat.

Up next is Psilocybin! This is a milk chocolate meets espresso brown holographic polish with shimmering purple/blue flashes. I love this polish. Browns are, in my humble opinion, incredibly underrated. This is deep and rich with just the right amount of holo and shimmer to make it magical. The formula was, yet again, flawless and opaque. Shown below is two coats with a glossy top coat.

Next is Moon Moth! This is a sage green creme with a subtle pink shimmer. This reminds me the green in armo camo and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually pulled off pretty well on me. Dusty colors can be particularly tricky for my skin tone sometimes, but this is beautiful. The only thing I wish was different was that the shimmer was a bit more prominent on the nail. It's there, it's just very subtle and I had a very hard time picking it up in photos. It is more prominent in person (though still very subtle), I promise. The formula on this was creamy and opaque just like the others. Shown below is two coats with a glossy top coat.

Next we have Spider and the Fly! This is a emerald forest green linear holographic polish. It is a stunningly deep, rich, and bold green. It reminds me of walks deep in the forest. Greens are another color that can be tricky on me but this looks gorgeous and has easily become one of my favorite greens in my collection. As with the others the formula is silky and opaque. This is two coats with a glossy top coat.

Up next is Weaponized Guilt! This is a black based polish with a dark, burnished gold shimmer and olive green leanings. This polish really reminds me of Halloween for some reason. I know it's not a typical color you'd grab for Halloween, but that's what it reminds me of. I couldn't tell you why lol The formula on this is silky and opaque, but you have to be careful applying or you'll get brushstrokes. No biggie. I did two thin coats and a glossy top coat.

Last, but not least, we have Distressed! This is a dark, dusty, denim blue polish with copper shimmer and holo flakes! Sitting here staring at this on my nails right now I can't help but think how this reminds me of the sky just at dusk when the stars are just becoming visible. This polish was creamy and opaque just like the others. Shown below is two coats with a glossy top coat.

That's all of them! I can't decide on a favorite, I love the whole collection! It's got all my favorites... holos and shimmers and browns! What do you think of this collection? Do you have a favorite? Let me know in the comments!

When: September 25th at a TBD time

CrowsToes: One Trick Pony

Wednesday, September 14, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey guys! Today I have CrowsToes One Trick Pony to show you! You know, I often neglect my CrowsToes and every time I pull one out and wear it I feel so guilty about it because they're gorgeous. One Trick Pony is no exception to this. It's a stunning deep purple to green holographic duochrome that glides on silky smooth and is super opaque. This could easily be a one coater with a thick coat. Shown below is two coats with a glossy top coat.

As you can see it's super holo even under artificial lighting. When the light hits it the purple really pops through though. I'm think I'm definitely going to have the break this out more often though. It's beautiful! What do you think of this polish? Let me know in the comments!

Comparison Post: Mistrust vs. Dueling Unicorns

Monday, September 12, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Hey guys! It's been quite a while since we've done a comparison post! Today we're comparing Vapid Lacquer Mistrust and Different Dimension Dueling Unicorns! So let's get right into it...

They definitely look like dupes in the bottle shots, don't they? Well, that's because they pretty much are. They're both a purple (that leans just ever so slightly toward the reddish side) linear holo. The only difference is that Dueling Unicorns has a stronger holo than Mistrust. Shown below is three coats of each with a glossy top coat.

You can see in the macro how much more holographic Dueling Unicorns is. It has a strong flame even under artificial lighting, but other than that they are exactly the same. Dueling Unicorns is unfortunately no longer available as it was released in Fall 2014, but Mistrust is a core Vapid and is consistently restocked. So you could easily sate a lust for Dueling Unicorns with Mistrust. Do you think these are dupes? Let me know in the comments!

Shooting Star Sunday: Alpha

Sunday, September 11, 2016 Unknown 0 Comments

Heyo! For this weeks installment of Shooting Star Sunday we have Different Dimension Alpha! Alpha is a linear holo base packed full of pink multi-chrome flakies and pink shimmer. The formula on this is fantastic, glides right on smooth as butter. Shown below is three coats plus a glossy top coat, but for those of you with less visible nail line two coats should be sufficient.

Alpha was a limited edition release in December 2014, so it's no longer available, but you might be able to find someone who is willing to part with it. What do you think of this polish? Let me know in the comments!
